Race Unity Speech Awards - with David and Sandra Brown Carr

David and Sandra Brown Carr report on the national finals of the 2022 Race Unity Speech Awards, which were held in Auckland recently.  This annual event brings together the top speakers from all over the country among senior high school students in years 11, 12, and 13.

The theme for 2022 was ‘Ngā Matimati nō te ringa kotahi: The Fingers of one hand’

In this programme, you’ll hear the speech from Hawke’s Bay student Kamaia Moore, who was among the six national finalists at the 2022 Awards, and her views on race relations in Aotearoa.  David also talks with Bev Watson, who received a Queen’s Birthday Honour in 2021 recognising her over 20 years of service to race relations and youth, about the past, present, and future of the Race Unity Speech Awards.

For more information about the Awards, visit the website: https://raceunity.nz/  The winning speeches are also available on YouTube.
