Race Unity Speech Awards - with David and Sandra Brown Carr

Host: David and Sandra Brown Carr
Language: English
Category: Children and Youth
Duration: 00:55:00

David and Sandra Brown Carr present another report on the annual Race Unity Speech Awards for senior high school students in years 11, 12, and 13.
The Awards were launched in 2001 by the New Zealand Baha’i Community, as its contribution towards promoting racial harmony in Aotearoa. And each year a different theme is chosen for the speakers to talk about.
The theme of the 2026 Speech Awards was: WHAKARONGO KIA MĀRAMA, LISTENING TO UNDERSTAND. There were 8 participants from 5 schools who entered the Hawke’s Bay regional Awards.
In this program, David will chat with the Hawke’s Bay regional winner of the 2026 Speech Awards, Amanjot Singh, who is Sikh, and who went on to be chosen as the national winner. This is only the third time that a Hawke’s Bay entrant has been chosen as the winner.
Listeners will also be able to hear the three remaining speeches presented at the 2026 Hawke’s Bay regional awards which weren’t able to be included in the previous program.
