Category: Religion and Spirituality
Duration: 00:55:00
David and Sandra Brown Carr present the first of two programs to mark the 2025 Week of Prayer for World Peace.
There is a special interview with Wellington Muslim Rehanna Ali, who is a long-time participant and supporter of interfaith activities in Aotearoa, and who is personally very knowledgeable about Islam, which is the second largest but possibly the most misunderstood religion in the world.
There are over 2 billion Muslims in the world. This represents approximately 25% of the global population. According to the 2023 census, there are more than 75,000 Muslims in Aotearoa, representing 1.5% of the total population. Islam is the country’s third largest religious group, after Christianity at about 32% and Hinduism at 3%.
Some years ago, Rehanna kindly spent some time explaining to Sandra her understanding of such important subjects as the meaning of “Islam”, its Five Pillars, the status of women in Islam, its position on waging war and the true meaning of jihad.
